The interview focused on Gold Mercury's mission to advance peace, international cooperation and Visionary Governance®, as well as the presentation of the Gold Mercury Award® to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

Nicolas De Santis has dedicated his career to advancing responsible leadership, international cooperation and the long-term future of humanity. As President of Gold Mercury®, the international institution founded in 1961, he leads initiatives that promote peace, sustainable development and Visionary Governance® through strategic foresight, dialogue and the internationally recognised Gold Mercury Awards®.
Just days before the interview, De Santis had the privilege of personally presenting the Gold Mercury Award® to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. As His Holiness approaches his 90th birthday, he rarely grants interviews, making the occasion particularly significant. Widely recognised as one of the world's foremost spiritual leaders, the Dalai Lama received the Award in recognition of his lifelong commitment to peace, compassion and the creation of a global Culture of Peace.
"It was a great honour for me and for Gold Mercury. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to recognise His Holiness and his extraordinary contribution to humanity," said De Santis.
The Award Ceremony took place in Dharamshala, India, where the Dalai Lama has lived for decades.
"We invited His Holiness to London, but he no longer travels. Instead, Gold Mercury travelled more than 10,000 miles to present the Award to him personally. We flew to Delhi before making our way into the Indian Himalayas to Dharamshala," De Santis explained.
In the peaceful surroundings of his residence, Gold Mercury formally presented the Award to His Holiness.
"When you stand beside him, you immediately feel an extraordinary sense of compassion, kindness and inner peace. His message to humanity has always been one of empathy, forgiveness and universal responsibility."
During his Award Acceptance speech, the Dalai Lama reflected on the importance of compassion as the foundation of human development. He spoke of the mother's love as our first experience of empathy and explained that a more peaceful world can only be built by nurturing compassion from the earliest stages of life.
Reflecting on the encounter, De Santis emphasised that the Dalai Lama's message resonates profoundly with Gold Mercury's mission.
