Nicolas De Santis Live On CNBC On Consequences Of Brexit

Gold Mercury President and BRAND EU founder, Nicolas De Santis, was interviewed on CNBC Italy by anchor Angela Antetomaso to discuss the key issues related to the upcoming EU referendum in the UK.

BRAND EU is the independent brand marketing champion of the EU, acting as a research and communications centre to promote the EU brand in Europe and the world. On the upcoming UK referendum on the EU, Nicolas De Santis said that via its BRAND EU programmes, Gold Mercury International will do everything possible to change the negative image of the EU in the UK.

The negative repercussions of a BREXIT are global and far reaching. It will destabilise economies, international security. BREXIT benefits no one except our enemies. So far we have been successful with BRAND EU in creating a communications base to build a campaign from. Brexit is a possibility as the issue will be put to the vote of the public. One of the biggest issues is that in the UK we have a brutally Eurosceptic media which will stop at nothing to sell papers and influence people in a negative way towards Europe. Hopefully the British public will be able to make their own mind up, do their own research, otherwise, we could be sleepwalking out of the EU and into oblivion. We will do the impossible to avoid it”.

De Santis had previously forecasted in the same CNBC programme in June 2015 on the impossibility of a Grexit saying:

Greece has been lent €240 billion so far and is in a technical bankruptcy, or let’s call it a ‘controlled bankruptcy’. Its lenders need to keep flowing funds into Greece while giving it more time to get its house in order and agree a payment schedule that allows the country manage its internal politics and funding needs. The world does not want a Grexit and neither do the majority of the Greeks”.

Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury meets Ambassador of Tunisia to the UK

Mr De Santis met H.E. Mr Nabil Ammar, to discuss the state of Tunisia, the Arab Region, the European Union, and broader issues of International Affairs and Global Governance.

Tunisia has achieved something unique and exemplifying, not only for the country, the region or the Arab world, but for the whole world. Tunisia has given an important lesson of national unity and sets a path that many regions and parts of the world that are currently in trouble should follow”.

said Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury International.

In December 2010 the fire of the Arab Spring sparked in the Republic of Tunisia. Despite terrorist attacks, Tunisia continues to establish democracy, based on national dialogue and a model of peaceful change.

Embracing the values of freedom, dignity and justice, the country has recently adopted the greatest constitution in its history including many rights for women. Besides, thanks to the successful compromises achieved by the various parties, Tunisia has proved that Islamism and secularism can coexist and even establish a government. As a result, this transition could be defined as a good example of Global Governance, showing that a democratic approach to governance can prevail and work in the Arab world.

De Santis focused his remarks on the impossibility of a Grexit and his belief that a deal with international lenders, the IMF, the ECB and the EU can be reached. De Santis said:

De Santis Live on CNBC News Commenting On UK Election Results and EU Referendum

Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury International, spoke live on the CNBC - UK Election Special 2015, broadcast from the Houses of Parliament in London’s Westminster.

De Santis explained to CNBC Italy anchor Angela Antetomaso, what the dramatic UK election results meant for the future of the UK including the Conservative promise of an EU referendum in 2017. With a clear win by the SNP in Scotland, De Santis believes that the issue of further devolution and a more federal Britain will prop up in the constitutional agenda very soon, creating great tensions in Parliament. He said on the interview:

We have seen today the resignation of not one but three political leaders: Clegg, Miliband and Farrage. Today the big personal triumphs are for the PM Cameron and Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Today’s results will reshape the political future of the UK. The question is how these two leaders, of two countries – who now believe in very different futures – can live together or whether they will find that this is impossible”.

In regards to an EU referendum, he commented that there will be two great years of uncertainty, but believes UK will ultimately stay in the EU.

De Santis is an active PRO-EU campaigner in UK and Europe, having established the BRAND EU Centre and re-launching Captain Euro (Europe’s Superhero cartoon used to launch the EURO) to reposition the brand and image of the EU:

Gold Mercury International and myself are now preparing for the important mission to make sure that UK remains a member of the EU. We will be an active part of the upcoming campaigns and efforts to clarify what the EU stands for, generate a positive perception of the EU and promote its critical role in the world”

Nicolas De Santis was interviewed by the EU’s European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) about the need to build a socially just and cohesive Europe based on shared values, and he talked about the BRAND EU Centre’s goals and the identity problem in Europe. The EU’s Economic and Social Committee is the body of the European Union established by the Treaty of Rome to unite the different economic interest groups and establish a Single Market. The EESC includes employers’ organisations, trade unions and civil society, and it is mandatory for the EESC to be consulted on the issues stipulated in the treaties, and in all cases where EU institutions deem it appropriate. Nicolas De Santis To Speak About English As European Language At Edukwest Multilingualism Event

Nicolas De Santis, President and Secretary General of Gold Mercury International, will deliver a keynote on the English language and its role in the European Union at the upcming EDUKWEST event on Multilingualism in Europe.

You can learn more about the EDUKWEST event here.

The multilingualism event will take place on the 17th September, 2014, at the Glasshouse Building – 2 Trematon Walk (Off Wharfdale Road) – Regent’s Quarter – N1 9SR London – United Kingdom.

The BRAND EU Centre have launched a publication outlining how English is already the de facto language of Europe, and puts forth the position that we should embrace English as an unofficial language of Europe; as it has the power to unite us all in our diversity. This would not be at the detriment of existing European languages and would not serve to override them, but instead compliment them and give us a common European ground – especially when Europeans are already exceptionally multilingual and mobile. You can read the BRAND EU paper here.

Brand EU Centre Featured in El Pais Newspaper – June 2014

Gold Mercury's newly launched BRAND EU Centre was recently featured in El Pais newspaper, in an article by Walter Oppenheimer.

You can read the El Pais Newspaper article here.

Nicolas De Santis, the President of Gold Mercury International, talked in the paper a little bit about the BRAND EU’s goals and the path being taken to fight back the rising tide of Euroscepticism – particularly in regards to the centre’s recent efforts at mythbusting and fact sharing. One of the centre’s core principles is looking at how the rebranding is not a quick job – the European Presidency has a new logo every six months, and changing the hearts and minds of citizens is not so simple as a quick logo change. The Centre first aims to combat the Eurosceptic myths and distortions about the EU, then clarify and develop the current and future situation of the European identity, and then finally, develop powerful emotional messages that can reach the citizens.

He also discussed the way in which Eurosceptics have played up to citizens’ grievances in a similar way to national politicians; by blaming national problems on Europe while simultaneously claiming its successes as their own. The BRAND EU Centre aims to reshape this wholly negative discourse (even those who defend Europe do so through the lens of avoiding disaster rather than looking at the many positives), and turn around the sense of European negativity.
