NEW PLANETARY PHASE AND GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
2000-2100: Improving global governance and sustainability for the rest of the century
For Gold Mercury, the goal to improve global governance and sustainability for 2100 is about creating a new global citizenship mindset with new universal values, such as protection of human rights, protection of the environment, fostering peace and security and maintaining cultural diversity. To achieve this mission GLOGO® provides a framework to better understand reality and how our planet really works. We know that if we only improved 1% of sustainable decision making, we would have changed the world forever. GLOGO® provides a radical new way of understanding our world and aims to create a new movement of global citizenship and global identity based on sustainability, cooperative thinking and universal values.
A New Planetary Phase
In the first day of the new millennium (1.1.2000) we entered a new phase in our civilisation. We realise now that the old paradigms did not prepare us for the global challenges ahead. Going forward, Gold Mercury proposes a transformative process towards global citizenship and global sustainability. Increasingly interconnected problems cannot be addressed without involving all actors. With a world which will reach 9.1 billion people by 2050, governments, companies, organisations and citizens need to be positive actors in this new phase in order to create a powerful and sustainable vision of the future. There are unprecedented opportunities available for the visionary governments, companies, organisations and people that generate true sustainable value and develop the new paradigms and models of the future.
A New Phase: Transformative Process Towards Global Sustainability
Crossing the Chasm to Global Sustainability: with Glogo, Gold Mercury aims to create a new supranational global ethic and mind-set based on global citizenship to counter the national and cultural short-termism of the past.
Our world has 3 different realities happening at the same time
Join our Network
To better understand our world and our role in it, Gold Mercury has identified three different and co-existing realities. The 3 realities are:
1. Global Chaos – You don’t want to go there.
2. Global Stagnation – Neither forward nor backwards.
3. Global Sustainability- A safe and protected planet.
These three realities include events and decisions which are having a positive, negative or destructive impact on sustainability. Rather than being scenarios, these realities represent real life cases which are happening every day in our world and are shaping it now (and in the future). Framing reality is a critical necessity in order to improve our understanding of the past, the present and the future. Within this discourse, the role of a strong global civil society (global citizenship) sharing universal values and a vision of cooperation is vital. The 3 different realities offer a framework to build a shared vision for the future (global sustainability) based on global citizenship and a culture of cooperation.
GLOBAL GOVERNANCE MODEL™
Sustainable Globalisation: Organising global complexity. Are you prepared for the globalisation and sustainability challenges ahead?
Our world is a complex system consisting of interdependent parts. Globalisation requires new models to understand and frame future governance and interdependence. To monitor our complex reality GLOGO® organises the planet into eight global areas to better frame the key challenges, issues and trends in each area. We call it: Organised Complexity™. The 8 areas revolve around the central concept of Synergy Design™: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The Global Governance Model™ is a tool for multi-stakeholder collaboration, cooperation and dialogue which is utilised to achieve a more sustainable planet.
Click on each area in the model below to see some examples of specific area challenges and issues.

SYNERGY DESIGN™ BUILDING A BETTER WORLD
Developing Sustainable Business Model Innovation
A collaborative framework to solve the world’s greatest challenges through synergistic collaboration
SILO THINKING LEADS TO A DUPLICATION OF EFFORTS AND TIME WASTING
Our world is a complex system made up of interdependent parts. In contrast, our society and our institutions are structured around specialised areas operating in isolated, independent systems. This has created societies based on silo mentalities, which are unable to react to change. SILO THINKING leads to fragmentation, time-wasting and a duplication of efforts with very little cross-area cooperation and fertilisation to solve problems. Globalisation has brought home the realisation that sustainable solutions to global challenges must come from greater interdisciplinary collaboration and the alignment of the different areas of our global system.
Two approaches to the future of collaboration and cooperation
OLD MODELS ARE FAILING – BUSINESS AND SOCIETY NEED TO BE RE-INVENTED
Companies, governments and organisations are realising that their business or economic models have become obsolete and can no longer be sustained. Merely benchmarking or copying someone else’s business or economic model might not work either. As you read this, new challenges and disruptive technologies are transforming entire industries and global areas. Identifying the future paradigms and responding with the appropriate business models, social models or economic models is crucial.
BUSINESS MODEL INNOVATION – SYNERGY DESIGN IN ACTION
What’s required is the creation of a new way of thinking about our world. This would be one which allows us to identify and maximise synergy across different global areas. Gold Mercury’s Synergy Design ™ offers a systematic approach to innovation, providing a range of powerful tools and intelligence to understand, challenge, differentiate and re-design existing business models. Through Synergy Design ™ we illustrate the power of collaboration, cooperation and co-creation in solving the world greatest challenges and re-inventing industry paradigms while overcoming the silo mentalities of the past in order to achieve a more sustainable planet.
Synergy Design Methodology– How does it work?
A. We Identify a Global Issue or Challenge and Create a Project
Using GLOGO® we identify and select a global challenge or issue and generate a project. ie. How will we cope with food shortages in the future?
ORGANISED COMPLEXITY: With GLOGO® we can determine how issues and trends from different areas are interconnected and how they will affect a particular topic/area.
B. Create a Superstar Team
GLOGO® puts together a superstar project team comprised of key experts and thinkers from our Gold Mercury Network to join the project, adding different experiences, perspectives and ideas, resulting in a multidisciplined global challenge taskforce.
The Gold Mercury Network’s combined power integrates ideas, knowledge and people collaborating to solve challenges.
C. Deliver Synergy Design™
Using our Synergy Design methodology, the team synthesise all intelligence and deliver potential solutions and new models by combining the power of collaboration.
The team delivers the Synergy Design Report outlining the best ideas and emerging paradigms to innovate the area or issue, which includes opportunities.
