Gold Mercury President meets with Alex Salmond and Carles Puigdemont

Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury International, met the former First Minister of Scotland, Mr Alex Salmond, and the President of Catalonia, Mr Carles Puigdemont, at Gold Mercury House in London.

Gold Mercury hosted a radio programme led by the leading Spanish radio channel Cadena SER as part of its work to discuss and debate the future of Europe.

BRITAIN’s exit from the EU could have a knock-on effect prompting the Spanish region of Catalonia to launch its own independence bid. The future of Europe and the EU includes discussing and understanding separatist and independence movements, especially in key nations such as the UK and Spain”

said Nicolas De Santis, founder of BRAND EU (The European Union Brand Centre) and President of Gold Mercury International.

Mr Puigdemont, 53, was elected as President of Catalonia in January 2016, following an agreement between the pro-Catalan independence parties Together for Yes and the CUP.

The upcoming EU referendum in the U.K. will be carefully monitored within the Spanish region of Catalonia, we will monitor any reaction and digest what that could mean for Catalonia’s own separatist ambitions”

said President Puigdemont.

For its part, the EU has said that it should not be taken for granted that an independent Catalonia could even stay in the EU as it does not want to set a precedent for other separatist movements in Europe.

The U.K. referendum on June 23 is just three days before a national election re-run in Spain on June 26 (following an inconclusive election in December last year). Puigdemont believes that the recent political situation in Spain – one of stalemate and indecision with parties refusing to work with each other – would be repeated and that the Catalonia issue would remain unresolved.

Nicolas De Santis Live On CNBC On Consequences Of Brexit

Gold Mercury President and BRAND EU founder, Nicolas De Santis, was interviewed on CNBC Italy by anchor Angela Antetomaso to discuss the key issues related to the upcoming EU referendum in the UK.

BRAND EU is the independent brand marketing champion of the EU, acting as a research and communications centre to promote the EU brand in Europe and the world. On the upcoming UK referendum on the EU, Nicolas De Santis said that via its BRAND EU programmes, Gold Mercury International will do everything possible to change the negative image of the EU in the UK.

The negative repercussions of a BREXIT are global and far reaching. It will destabilise economies, international security. BREXIT benefits no one except our enemies. So far we have been successful with BRAND EU in creating a communications base to build a campaign from. Brexit is a possibility as the issue will be put to the vote of the public. One of the biggest issues is that in the UK we have a brutally Eurosceptic media which will stop at nothing to sell papers and influence people in a negative way towards Europe. Hopefully the British public will be able to make their own mind up, do their own research, otherwise, we could be sleepwalking out of the EU and into oblivion. We will do the impossible to avoid it”.

De Santis had previously forecasted in the same CNBC programme in June 2015 on the impossibility of a Grexit saying:

Greece has been lent €240 billion so far and is in a technical bankruptcy, or let’s call it a ‘controlled bankruptcy’. Its lenders need to keep flowing funds into Greece while giving it more time to get its house in order and agree a payment schedule that allows the country manage its internal politics and funding needs. The world does not want a Grexit and neither do the majority of the Greeks”.

Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury meets Ambassador of Tunisia to the UK

Mr De Santis met H.E. Mr Nabil Ammar, to discuss the state of Tunisia, the Arab Region, the European Union, and broader issues of International Affairs and Global Governance.

Tunisia has achieved something unique and exemplifying, not only for the country, the region or the Arab world, but for the whole world. Tunisia has given an important lesson of national unity and sets a path that many regions and parts of the world that are currently in trouble should follow”.

said Nicolas De Santis, President of Gold Mercury International.

In December 2010 the fire of the Arab Spring sparked in the Republic of Tunisia. Despite terrorist attacks, Tunisia continues to establish democracy, based on national dialogue and a model of peaceful change.

Embracing the values of freedom, dignity and justice, the country has recently adopted the greatest constitution in its history including many rights for women. Besides, thanks to the successful compromises achieved by the various parties, Tunisia has proved that Islamism and secularism can coexist and even establish a government. As a result, this transition could be defined as a good example of Global Governance, showing that a democratic approach to governance can prevail and work in the Arab world.

H.M. King Simeon II of Bulgaria Joins Gold Mercury Advisory Board

H.M. King Simeon II of Bulgaria and former Prime Minister of Bulgaria (2001-2005) has joined the Gold Mercury International Advisory Board. King Simeon has been a crucial actor in the Bulgarian transition to a full democracy and to join the European Union and NATO.

Eduardo De Santis, Chairman and Founder of Gold Mercury said:

“It is a historic honour to have one of Europe’s most historic and charismatic figures in our board. HM King Simeon II has done and continues to do so much for Europe and for Bulgaria’s democracy and progress”.

H.M. King Simeon II will also act as a BRAND EU Ambassador for Gold Mercury. Brand EU is Gold Mercury’s Centre to advance the image and identity of Europe in the world.

King Simeon II is one of the last three living heads of state from the Second World War, the last man in the world to hold the title of ‘Tsar’ and one of the only monarchs in history to be democratically elected as head of state. On April 6, 2001 Simeon II proclaimed his decision to return for good and to contribute actively to the country’s revival, by employing the experience and contacts he had amassed in exile. In a historic address to the Bulgarian nation he proclaimed his intention to form a new political entity – the National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) – dedicated to high political morale and integrity. As the leader of the Movement, after overcoming the stumbling blocks on the way to registering the Movement in court, the Bulgarian King joined the parliamentary elections on June 17, 2001.

In 2001, after a landslide victory for the NMSII, Simeon II Saxe-Coburg Gotha was sworn in as Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria on July 24, 2001. He completed a successful 4-year term of office in a government coalition with the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – the first post-communist cabinet to end its mandate with enhanced public approval. During the term of the NMSII governance, Bulgaria attained the strategic national ideals of joining NATO and signing the Treaty of Accession to the European Union.

His government –consisting primarily of technocrats and western-educated politicians- has been viewed as one of the more stable ones in Bulgaria’s recent history with the country acceding to NATO and Simeon receiving the Path to Peace award in 2002.

Simeon II Saxe-Coburg Gotha has been decorated with more than 30 other distinctions, including the highest class of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Carlos III, the Grand Officer class of the French Legion of Honor, the Belgian Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold II, the Islamic Grand Cross of the Order of Independence of Jordan, the Greek Grand Cross of the Saviour, the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, the Grand Cross of the Order of Malta, Kinght of the Order of the Golden Fleece, Knight Grand-Cross of Honour and Devotion, as well as with the highest classes of a number of European Dynastic orders.

Gold Mercury President Nicolas De Santis was interviewed on CNBC by anchor Angela Antetomaso to discuss the current Greek Financial crisis and the issues related to the upcoming EU referendum in the UK.
