Peace Award Winners

The Gold Mercury Award for Peace was created in 1970 and granted in its first year to GIUSEPPE SARAGAT, President of the Italian Republic. Since this time the award has been presented to some of the most prominent royal and political leaders in the world including U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, H.M. King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and H.E. Anwar Sadat President of Egypt. Each winner has been recognised for a major contribution to peace and fostering international cooperation among nations. Other historic recipients of the Gold Mercury Award for Peace include:

    In order to emphasise the importance of information in the efforts of global democratisation, the Gold Mercury Award has been bestowed upon leading newspapers and publications such as: Corriere della Sera, Le Monde, The Times, Axel Springer Verlag, De Telegraaf, Le Soir, Ettela'at, Borba Publishing House, and many more. Prominent individuals, such as Camilo Jose Cela, Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, have also won this award. This particular acknowledgement honours the role of information and media as a way to foster the communication of ideas and cultures among people, without which no democracy, and therefore, no freedom can exist.
